Words of Wisdom: 3 Ways I Live My Life

November 19, 2014 by alaahassan

Rules of Life

I decided to start a new type of post where I will be sharing wisdom from friends around me.

I learn a lot from from everyone so why not share some of those things with you.

The 3 life lessons are from my partner and good friend Steven Rampersad.

1. Life is too short

Don’t waste your time on worthless people.  Why? They’re not worth….duh!!

2. There’s smart money & there’s stupid money

Don’t invest in something simply because you are able to improve your perceived image (feed your ego).  Focus on returns (profit).

ROLI: Return on Life Investment: invest for equal or greater return because every other investment is an emotional waste of time. I’m not only referring to money.

3. Apply the 5 day rule for every decision you take

Need an explanation?

Just wait 5 days before you take decisions that require any type investment. This will help you focus and reduce your risks.

Do you have your own set of tools that you live by?

How Do I Find My Passion? 5 Tips To Get You Started

November 19, 2014 by alaahassan

How to find your passion

Are you passionate about life or do you feel burned out, bored and trapped?

Maybe you’re afraid to change career tracks, travel overseas or try to sell your artwork because you might fail. Perhaps you’re in a dead end job and feel weighed down by responsibilities that squash your passions and dreams.

That scenario described me until I woke up one day and realized I wanted to enjoy my professional and personal life. I couldn’t fill in the blank when I thought, “I wonder what my passion is.”

It was time for a change, and the tips I used might help you find the passion that makes you feel alive.  It took a while and required me to execute on things and not just sit there and wait for something to happen.  A lot of people complain about their life but not many do take actions to change the situation.

Over the past 4 years, I’ve been through a lot.  Divorce, business loss, health issues, got married, bought a house…..but something was missing.  Having passion increases your happiness.

5 tips to help you find your passion

1. Brainstorm Ideas

Ask yourself:

  • If I could do any job, what would I do?
  • If I could live anywhere, where would I live?
  • If I had all the money in the world, what would I buy?

While answering these three questions, I remembered that my passion is online business (eCommerce) and inspiring people through speaking/blogging/advising. I decided to launch my own agency on the side while working full-time.  I also focused on improving my personal brand by speaking at events and getting my name out there.  Blogging truly improved my credibility as well.

2. Evaluate hobbies

One of my employees enjoys making small boats while the other enjoys playing tennis. I started hiking as my new hobby.

Let’s assume someone you know likes baking.  She could build a bakery in her home and create delectable desserts every day.  She can truly say that… “My passion for baking is a hobby that now supports my family.”

What do you enjoy in your free time? Your hobbies and interests offer insight into what makes you tick, and they reveal your true passions.

3. Remember childhood daydreams

The cousin of my friend dreamt of playing baseball and even slept with his glove under his pillow. Over the years, cars, girls and eventually his career replaced baseball. This year, he returned to his passion as a Little League coach, and he’s never been happier. Your childhood dreams could finish the sentence, “My passion is….”

4. Ask for help.

If you’re searching for passion, ask your friends and family members for advice. They may have the exact insight you need as you search for your passion.  Sometimes even reaching out to your network on Linkedin can help.  Don’t be shy.  Lots of people aren’t happy doing what they do.  You never know but you might connect with someone who will open some new doors for you.

5. Volunteer.

By serving others, you may find activities you enjoy. Whether you volunteer in a pet shelter, community center, medical clinic or international orphanage, serving others might help you find yourself.

People who volunteer for causes usually say…. “I found my passion for promoting goodwill after I decided to volunteer.”

Final Thoughts

Are you ready to find your passion? As you brainstorm, pursue hobbies, daydream, ask for insight and volunteer, you’re sure to find the path to professional and personal fulfillment.
