The Complete Guide for Personal Branding

September 30, 2014 by alaahassan

personal branding blog posts

Since 2011, I’ve been working on improving my personal brand.

I had discovered Michael Hyatt, author of Platform – Get Noticed In A Noisy World and podcaster, who inspired me to focus on my personal platform.

I will be honest with you, don’t expect to see immediate results from your efforts.  It takes time and dedication in order to get results.

Nonetheless, nothing is impossible.  I will be blogging about my own experience and helping you understand important things about developing your personal brand (online & offline).

Try Quitting Coffee…What a difference it makes!

September 30, 2014 by alaahassan

quit-drinking-coffee

I honestly forgot how hard it is to quit coffee (or caffeine in general).  I did it last year for 3 months and I felt amazing but since then, I got back into it as a social coffee drinker but guess what, I became more than a social drinker.

It’s been 4 days so far since I stopped drinking anything with caffeine and here’s what happened so far:

  • I feel tired by 2pm & I need a quick 15min nap.
  • I drink more water now since the coffee mug is no longer on my desk
  • Since I wake up at 6:30am everyday, I feel tired by 9pm.  Now, actually go to bed before 11pm (before, I couldn’t even fall asleep before midnight!)
  • I am less agitated
  • I am not experiencing any digestive issues in the morning.
  • I’m back at the gym working out every morning before work.
  • I simply feel healthier & more relaxed overall.

So far I’ve substituted my coffee drinking habit with:

  • Water
  • Herbal Teas
  • Fruits
  • Nuts

My goal is to actually quit forever.  Let’s see if it’s possible.  Have you tried this?

Online Entrepreneurs Need to Learn How To Sleep More

Learn how to sleep more

Last week, my wife and I said:

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We need to have a good night’s sleep.

It was time for us to change our mattress & I was actually very excited to go shopping for a new one (I will be blogging about that experience soon).

I sit in front of the computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day and constantly connected to the Internet.  Obviously this has a negative effect on my posture and back.  Being continuously connected to the Internet is another problem I’m dealing with.

I noticed that when I lack sleep, I feel grumpy, easily annoyed, lose my patience quickly and just don’t feel like seeing people.

6 hours of sleep is good for some but I think my body needs like 7 hours to be perfectly productive.

I need high levels of energy during the day in order to be able to manage all my projects & I’ve realized it starts with good sleeping habits.

My Plan to Improve My Sleeping Habits

In order for me to enjoy my new mattress, here’s what I plan on doing:

1) Get new pillows
I had no idea how important pillows are, so I got 2 new ones that adjust to my neck and head position.

2) Drink Camomile Tea Before Bedtime
I need to calm my nerves and relax my muscles.  It also helps with digestion.

3) No More Electronics 1 Hour Before Sleeping
Arianna Huffington doesn’t even bring her electronics in the bedroom.  I might do that next but for now, I will try reducing my use of them.

My goal is to enjoy my sleep as much as possible and actually look forward to it.

Have you used any tricks to improve your own sleep?

How Much Tip Is Too Much?

September 28, 2014 by alaahassan

how much do you tip?

I am a firm believer of tipping people who go out of their way to comfort you & make you happy. Maybe you’ll never see him again, but this person will treat the next passenger even better since he saw how you appreciated his service.

It’s just another way of making this world a better place, one connection at a time

Same thing at a restaurant. If they greet me with a smile, care to fillup my glass of water before I even have to ask them, smile, recommend items from the menu based on their experience and care enough to reassure me of my selection, smile…….you notice how many times I said smile & Care…….

Smiling & Caring are one of the easiest ways to get tipped well…especially by me ☺

Are You Addicted to Podcasts? I Know I am!

September 28, 2014 by alaahassan

I Love Podcasts

After switching from Samsung S4 smart phone back to the iPhone, I’ve discovered a new world that has truly changed the way I consume knowledge.  The world of Podcasts!

Before listening to podcasts, I was consuming knowledge through:

  • Books (physical & digital)
  • Online articles/blog posts
  • School
  • Conferences, Seminars, Workshops

But all those channels wouldn’t allow me to multi-task (I could be wrong about the school part because I would be on Facebook while the teacher was lecturing).
With podcasts, I’m able to consume them while..

  • Driving (to work, drop/pickup my daughter from school)
  • Working on the computer
  • At the gym
  • Walking

Being able to consume knowledge while I was driving and working out is simply priceless.  Those 2 activities would require usually 2 hours of my daily routine.  Before I would simply listen to the radio or whatever was playing at the gym and think about a million things.  But now, I’m actually digesting new thoughts, ideas and perspectives from podcasters that have interesting life experiences to learn from.

You should really give it a try…it might actually allow you to discover your true passion.

Here’s a short list of some podcasts I’m currently subscribed to:

  • This is Your Life by Michael Hyatt
  • The Meditation Podcast
  • Entrepreneur on Fire with John Lee Dumas
  • The Overwhelmed Brain
  • Six Pixels of Separation with Mitch Joel
  • Social Media Marketing Podcast

LIFE TIP: A Simple Thing I do When I Miss My Friends

September 27, 2014 by alaahassan

What to do when you miss your friends

Most of us currently use social media throughout the day to stay in touch with our friends (or just spy on them).  We comment on their posts, LIKE their images, POKE (until that feature was removed) or chat with them.  We might do this probably to 20% of our friends list.

Actions within our relationship are now mostly based on quantity VS quality.

The fact that you liked 20 photos on your friend’s profile or that you commented 3 times this week on her status or texted him 5 times this week – it doesn’t mean that you have a valuable friendship.  It simply means that both you of are spending a lot of time on social media.

Honestly…..look deep inside and you will notice that you really miss your friends.

Here’s what you should do (and what I started doing): CALL THEM & SIMPLY SAY Hello!

It will take you literally 1 minute…but because of how it will make both of you feel,  you will end up talking to each other longer.

Happy Monday!
